Grandma's Cottage Pattern

This is a pretty little wall hanging featuring cottage prints, embellished with embroidery and buttons. The wall hanging looks equally lovely in sweet 1930's prints. The pattern can also be repeated in a larger quilt.
Finished size: 8" square.

Cutting
- Sky - cut 3 of pattern A and 2 of pattern B.
- Chimneys and roof - cut 2 of pattern A and one of pattern C from the navy patterned fabric.
- Top of cottage (above door) - cut 1 of pattern D.
- Door - cut 1 of pattern E.
- Window - cut 1 of pattern A.
- Window shutters - cut 2 of pattern A.
- Side of cottage and beneath window - cut 1 of pattern F and 1 of pattern E.
Sewing
- Sew a sky A to a chimney A to a shy A to a chimney A to a sky A.
- Sew one sky B to each end of roof C.
- Join step 1 to step 2.
- Sew this roof and sky piece to the top of the cottage D.
- Sew a window shutter to each side of the window.
- Join this piece to the underside of the window F.
- Sew door E to side of cottage E.
- Sew the window segment to the door, and join up the whole cottage.
- Add embroidery and other embellishments as desired. Our cottage includes little buttons for flowers and embroidered hollyhocks and flowers.
Borders and Binding
- Cut 2 pieces each 1 ½" x 5 ½" for the sides, and 2 pieces each 1 ½" x 8" for the top and bottom.
- Sew the side pieces on first, then the top and the bottom.
- Cut 4 strips each 1" x 9" for binding. Sew a single bind after you have quilted and embroidered your cottage.
